Why “Human Motor Patterns”?

Human Motor Patterns was born from the desire to place the human brain at the center of motor control, focusing on the key role of the central nervous system in the genesis of dysfunctional postures and movements.

abstract Background

Innovative Startup

unnamed_edited.png

Our startup is entirely dedicated to studying pathological movement patterns through the use of cutting-edge technologies. We don't just treat the symptoms: we aim to address the true causes of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Our story

Human Motor Patterns was founded in 2022 by Giovanni Maresca, a physician specializing in physical therapy, and Francesca Romana Latini, a physical therapist. The idea stems from years of clinical experience, scientific research, and technological innovation, with the goal of creating a concrete, effective, and scientifically validated tool to help professionals and patients manage MSDs.

Today, HMP is a technology transfer project: the result of the union of clinical, engineering, and IT expertise in a medical device equipped with artificial intelligence that brings complex specialized skills directly into the hands of healthcare professionals.

The problem

Human Motor Patterns isn't just an idea:
it's a real project with solid foundations and enormous potential.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the leading cause of disability worldwide. They comprise over 150 clinical conditions—including low back pain, scoliosis, osteoarthritis, and postural imbalances—that affect muscles, bones, and joints.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 1 billion people are affected.

In Europe, over 250 million patients require rehabilitation treatments.

In Italy, over 240,000 postural-related surgeries are performed each year: more than 27 hip and knee replacement surgeries are performed every hour in Italy.

These numbers highlight an alarming reality: most of these interventions could be avoided if we acted earlier and more effectively on motor control and prevention.

A Bit of Statistics

The Solution: BMPOD

A validated and patented medical device, born from a multidisciplinary technology transfer that combines medicine, engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and design to create a new, more precise, effective, and sustainable postural medicine.

Our device, BMPOD (Brain Motor Patterns Optimizer Device), represents a radical breakthrough in the approach to MSDs.

Unlike traditional methods that focus only on joint imbalance, BMPOD is designed to analyze and correct pathological motor patterns, i.e., the incorrect movement patterns that underlie many dysfunctions.

Advanced hardware

Practical, high-precision wearable sensors

Artificial Intelligence

Proprietary machine learning algorithms

Real-time Processing

Measurement, analysis and correction of movements

The device collects biomechanical and neuromotor data, analyzes them using a machine learning algorithm, and provides personalized corrective strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and therapy.

An Innovative Approach

HMP proposes a paradigm shift in DMS management

We move from symptomatic to causal and preventive medicine

From the subjectivity of healthcare workers to objective measurement

From empirical therapy to an intelligent system based on reliable data

Prevent postural disorders before they cause serious pathologies

Reduce the risk of injury and improve performance in sports

Enable appropriate diagnosis and treatment of MSDs caused by postural dysfunctions

Validate the effectiveness of orthoses, aids

Validate the effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions

Support healthcare workers and validate their interventions

How the BMPOD Works

The BMPOD (Brain Motor Patterns Optimizer Device) detects pathological motor patterns, helping healthcare professionals correct joint imbalances that lead to poor posture and musculoskeletal disorders.

After

The infographic demonstrates the need for a change in approach to the unsolved problem of Musculoskeletal Disorders:

BMPOD compares the quality of interventions, performed through a cybernetic cycle, before and after the corrections suggested by the proprietary AI algorithm.

Joint imbalance

The body assumes incorrect postures that generate tension

Pathological motor pattern

Wrong movements become habitual

Symptoms

Pain, stiffness, reduced quality of life

Before

Correct posture

The system optimizes joint balance

Normalized motor pattern

Fluid, correct and functional movements

Tangible benefits

Pain reduction, improved mobility and active prevention

Where we are going

Working and validated prototype

Patent extension in Europe and non-European countries

Partnerships with universities, orthopedics, law firms and design centers

Technology Readiness Level 4

Collaborations for clinical tests and trials

European Patent Granted

In Summary

Human Motor Patterns isn't just an idea:
it's a real project, with solid foundations and enormous potential.

A validated and patented medical device, born from a multidisciplinary technology transfer that combines medicine, engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and design to create a new, more precise, effective, and sustainable postural medicine.

The BMPOD will contribute to improving the quality of interventions in the field of Musculoskeletal Disorders as well as the need for surgery, with its associated costs and risks, thanks to the possibilities of treatment and prevention through a non-invasive, predictive and data-driven approach.
